One of the defining principles of Indivisible is that there are 198 (or so) means of non-violent resistance to tyranny. Supporting businesses that support democracy is a way to resist.

A fantastic alternative to spending dollars on companies that hurt our communities and our democracy, is shopping local. Here are some superb central Indiana options from our member, Lori Ecker.
FANTASTIC small batch toiletries (and other goods) made right here in Indianapolis. A woman-owned local business that is located near the heart of downtown. I am absolutely addicted to the sugar body scrub, and I love all the scents.
I have not yet purchased from Gold Hour Books, but it is super close to me, and I am told by trusted sources that it’s a local book store that you should support. My next book purchase (I vowed I finish the ones I have purchased before purchasing more for myself!) will be through them for xmas gifts I am planning on purchasing.
An EXCELLENT bookstore for kids. You would love their books! Located in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood at 56th and Illinois.
Another fantastic local business located in the Stutz Building in downtown Indianapolis. I bought my most recent house plant there (a gorgeous lime green pothos), and it’s doing beautifully. I also found peat free potting mix there. The other household items they sell are also gorgeous and unique.
Another local favorite of mine and WAY better quality than the union-busting Starbucks!! I’m so very lucky there is a coffee house near me, and the staff is so friendly. For the coffee lovers (or coffee HOUSE lovers!) in your life, this is a great place to get them a gift card they can enjoy or purchased bagged coffee for gifts.
My husband discovered this gem, and he buys all the flowers he sends me from this beautiful local business. They are located at 2104 S. Delaware St., Indianapolis, and they DELIVER. All their arrangements have been absolutely beautiful.
Another fabulous local florist - this one located in Lafayette, Indiana:
Now…here is an extra special bonus; Restored Creations is an addiction/homelessness/domestic violence recovery program that helps women get their lives back on track. I can tell you personally that the Hearth & Home scent is total bliss - especially for this time of year. My friend in Connecticut has it shipped to her! This company focuses on crafting candles (but the car diffusers are incredible!), and it has PAID OFF. It’s local, AND it helps women in central Indiana.

A friend of mine owns this lovely little local store in Broad Ripple, and I have bought many unique gifts there. There is no website, but you can find this little gem on Instagram and Facebook. Contact info is: 825 Westfield Blvd., Indianapolis - (317) 955-9908
I have purchased several flags from this local company, and they give back to charitable organizations with every purchase! All of the flags I have are extremely well made and have stood up beautifully to the elements.
(Recommendations below from a friend)......
Irvington has several local shops, and the neighborhood even holds its own Small Business Saturday every year. For holiday gifts, I especially recommend Black Sheep Gifts, Hampton & Co., and Irvington Vinyl and Books. For quirky and unique gifts, shop Silver in the City, which has one branch on Mass Ave in Indy and one in Carmel. For handmade and crafting businesses try:
aDorablyDone: crocheted dolls, animals, and other decorations
Rose and Wolf Apothecary: natural body care and bath products
Hygge House Homemade: ceramic jewelry
