Atterbury Job Corps in Edinburgh, Indiana, serves 275 vulnerable and at-risk Hoosiers, providing education, housing, and vocational training. This past week, they received notice that their program was ending effective June 30, and that students had just days to vacate the facility. Many students were homeless prior to the program, and have no resources outside of the program to help them in this transition.
Student Jonathan Robinson said, "It's like y'all are kicking us out of our home, essentially. It's crazy." Another student, Ezekiel Adams, said, "They just ripped the carpet from under our feet."
Who is responsible? The Trump administration, who says it's shutting down Job Corps nationwide because the program is not achieving intended outcomes. Atterbury Job Corps Director Renee Wolf disputed this claim, referencing the 60+ year track record of the Job Corps program.
While US Senator Todd Young and US Rep. Jefferson Shreve did offer brief statements, US Senator Jim Banks did not respond to requests for comment per WTHR.
