ICE Offices in Carmel
We are calling on the Carmel City Council and Mayor Sue Finkam to hold a public forum and demand full transparency from ICE about its intended operations, coordination with local law enforcement, and safeguards to protect civil rights and public safety. Residents deserve to know what this office will do, how it will interact with Carmel Police, and what measures will be in place to ensure our city remains safe, respectful, and unified. Indiana Legislature
This week is the final week for this short-term session. Monday and Tuesday of this week were the final “readings” of bills in committees with final votes by Friday. Once a bill is passed in the third reading by both the Indiana House and Senate with identical language, it is considered an enrolled act and sent to the Governor for their signature. The Governor then has seven days to sign it into law, veto it, or allow it to become a law without a signature. If the House and Senate pass different versions, a conference committee must reconcile them. If the conference committee reaches mutually acceptable bill language, then the bill goes back to both chambers to be voted on again.. If the conference committee reaches mutually acceptable bill language then the bill goes back to both chambers to be voted on again. If both chambers approve the bill with the amendment, then the bill goes to the Governor for signature. BillintoLaw.pdf

The SAVE Act: S 1383 The Safeguard American Voters Act
The Senate voted in favor of this bill December 11, 2025. The House voted in favor of this bill on February 11, 2026 but with an amendment. The bill goes back to the Senate to vote. This is a voter suppression bill.
The SAVE America Act amends the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 by introducing a requirement for individuals to provide proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections.
According to the U.S. Department of State, examples of primary citizenship evidence include a birth certificate, a U.S. passport, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, a Certificate of Citizenship, or a Naturalization Certificate. (While Real IDs are often assumed to be a reliable proxy for citizenship, they do not definitively establish citizenship.)
Additionally, birth certificates often lack information that matches a person’s current identity. For instance, someone who has changed their name through marriage or court order may need to present a third document (such as a marriage certificate) to join their proof of citizenship (e.g., birth certificate) with their proof of identity (e.g., driver’s license), further decreasing the likelihood that a voter will have the appropriate documentation on hand to successfully register.Five Things to Know About the SAVE America Act BiPartisan Policy Center.
War in Iran
There have been numerous recent and ominous news reports about US military assets being moved to the Middle East. What most of these articles share is the assumption that whether or not the US attacks Iran is entirely a decision of the President. But it is not. Congress is supposed to be consulted when the US considers going to or goes to war.
To that end, Rep. Massie (R-KY4)'s H.Con.Res. 38: Directing the President pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution to remove United States Armed Forces from unauthorized hostilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran may be considered on the House Floor this week. A concurrent resolution such as this is often used for matters that affect the rules of Congress or to express the sentiment of Congress. It must be agreed to by both the House and the Senate in identical form but it is not signed by the President and does not carry the force of law. What Can You Do?
Push back loudly on any version of voter suppression legislation, be it the original, 2.0, or 3.0.
They want to distract us by creating constant crises and attempting to silence our voices, but we have the power of our movement, and we will not back down.
